This totally renovated cottage is located just 88 steps from the dunes of Medlands Beach. The Island Gin cottage is perfect for a couple; however a separate double bedroom is available by arrangement.

The Space

The ground floor open kitchen, dining, living and bathroom uses sustainable hardwood boards and timber lined walls. The vaulted ceiling space allows a mezzanine area to be the dedicated sleeping area. A queen-sized bed is positioned next to a window, perfect for stargazing whilst tucked up in the pure linen bedding.  A dressing area, with open clothes rail and plenty of timber hangers, shares the space. Insect screens on the windows allow cooling sea breezes and the sound of the rolling surf to fill the space.
The ground floor is open plan living with the kitchen taking in the view to the wetlands, and whilst relaxing in the vintage Arne Norell Ilona sofas, you can enjoy a glimpse of the sea, wine in hand.

The kitchen overlooks the wetlands to the west. The fridge/freezer will have chilled water and large ice blocks ready for your arrival. There is a stainless steel 4 burner gas hob and oven, along with all the kitchen essentials. Glassware has been crafted by renowned glass artist Ruth Allen and most of the plates and bowls have been created by Sarah Harrison the island’s gifted potter. There’s an array of cutting boards, baking tins, serving and mixing bowls. There's a Soda Stream, a well-used stove top espresso pot and plenty of storage area for your provisions.

A secret door at the foot of the stairs hides the timber lined bathroom, ensuring complete privacy. You'll find Egyptian cotton towel sets and beach towels available for your stay.

The Wetland Folly

This architectural awarded structure is designed by Herbst Architects. The Wetland Folly is positioned towards the setting sun overlooking the wetlands. Designed as an additional living area, the walls open up bringing the outdoors in. The massive hardwood table sits in the centre of the space anchored at the end by the large open fireplace. This fireplace is used to cook on and provide warmth in the cooler months. During the year there are Fire Restrictions in place, and the fireplace cannot be used during this time. However, a gas BBQ is the perfect stand in. A cozy hanging chair is positioned in the opposite corner of the fireplace and is perfect for watching the wildlife in the wetlands. Moving the supplied chilly bin and Bluetooth JBL Extreme speakers into the Folly transforms the atmosphere into a sunset bar vibe. Perfect for an Island Gin Sunset Cocktail hour.

It's time to switch off - Literally

As you’ll be experiencing living totally off-grid, there are a number of critical things you must be aware of. As your stay will be totally powered by our newly installed solar system, please limit your use of power. Switch off all lights and appliances (except the fridge) at the wall sockets when not in use. This is to conserve the power stored in the batteries. This is the only source of power for the water pump which supplies you're drinking, showering and toilet flushing water. This is why high energy consuming items like a hair dryer, toaster or coffee machine are not permitted or available in the cottage.
