The Ultimate Tour

Friday: Your group checks in at Fly my Sky, Auckland Domestic Terminal at 3.30 pm for your 4.00 departure. A beautiful 30 minute scenic flight across the Hauraki Gulf sees you landing at Claris Airfield around 4.30 pm.

Your group will be met by our staff and shown to your rental car (Toyota Carib) and supplied with an island map and instructions on finding your accommodation, where the owners will be waiting to welcome you and settle you in.

McManaway Cottage is a 200 metre walk from Pah Beach, the Wild Rose Cafe and the Stonewall Store complex.Closer still is the Currach Irish Pub where the atmosphere is warm, the food hot and the beer cold.

Saturday: This morning you'll take a drive in your hire car to Whangaparapara Harbour to meet Chris.

There is an option for a personal transfer van to deliver your party if required.

Chris will be waiting at the wharf with 'Sundancer' his fully certified  and refurbished 38 ft ex fishing vessel. Once aboard your ultimate tour begins. View the west coast of Great Barrier Island from the sea as you meander through the Broken Islands, visiting the Gannet colony and squeezing through Man of War passage into the beautiful Port Fitzroy Harbour. Chris will find a sheltered spot for you to enjoy lunch (available for purchase at Whangaparapara if required) before you disembark at Port Fitzroy wharf.

Here you will be met by your tour guide and welcomed aboard Barrier Tour Companys coach.

You'll then continue back down the east coast of the island by road. The tour includes a stop and short optional bushwalk at the spectacular Windy Canyon.

Enjoy the magnificent east coast beaches and scenery, stopping to boil the billy for a cuppa before returning to Whangaparapara to relax on the deck at Great Barrier Lodge.

This tour includes complementary tea, coffee and biscuits. Packed lunches and take away alcohol and soft drinks are available for purchase from the Lodge or bring your own food and drink with you.

Sunday: Today is all yours. Take your hire car and go exploring. Check out the Shoal Bay Pottery, visit Peter Edmonds at his wood turning/carving gallery and take a look at the local art gallery in Claris. Take a walk to the Mermaid Pool, the natural Hot Springs or just relax on the beach.

Leave your car at the airport when you check in at 4.30 for your 5.00 pm departure to Auckland Airports domestic terminal.
