Port FitzRoy is Great Barrier Islands largest and most sheltered harbour. During the summer months the tiny settlement is a bustling hive of industry as the store, wharf fuel outlet and local boat club (bar and restaurant) and burger van struggle to service the huge in-flux of visiting boaties.
A great little information kiosk, a tiny library, a nurses cottage and the Dept of Conservations main area office also provide visitors with their essential services.
Over the hill, in Karaka Bay, The 'Outdoor Pursuit Centre' operate their own brand of 'adventure education' while those less adventurous enjoy the guided walk at Glenfern Sanctuary.
